The first step to becoming a teacher is deciding which grade level you want to teach, as this will determine your degree plan.
MAJOR IN EDUCATION EC - 6
- Students interested in teaching Early Childhood – 6th grade will major in Education and be certified in one of the following:
MAJOR IN EDUCATION GRADES 4 - 8
- Students interested in teaching grades 4 - 8 will major in Education and be certified in the preferred teaching field;
MAJOR IN EDUCATION PK - 3
- Students interested in teaching Pre-K to grade 3 will major in Education and be certified in PK-3 ;
MAJOR IN EDUCATION EARLY CHILDHOOD
Students interested in majoring in early childhood education will major in Education (Does not lead to Texas Teacher Certification);
BS MAJORS WITH TEACHER CERTIFICATION
- Students interested in teaching one of the following sciences will major in the preferred teaching field;
BFA MAJORS WITH TEACHER CERTIFICATION
- Students who plan to teach one of the fine art subjects listed below will major in the preferred teaching field;
BM MAJORS WITH TEACHER CERTIFICATION
- Students who plan to teach one of the following music areas will major in the preferred teaching field;
DOUBLE MAJORS
- Students interested in teaching grades 7-12 will double major in Education and their preferred subject (content area);
MAJOR WITH MINOR
- Students interested in teaching will major in Education and can add a minor in;
All students are required to participate in field experiences in public schools.
